Concrete pumping

is a useful option for residential projects involving foundations, patio slabs, sidewalks, driveways, or retaining walls. Dumping a large pile of concrete and spreading it with wheelbarrows can work, but it’s slow and inefficient. However, with a concrete pump, you can place materials quickly and accurately. This article explores the five benefits of using concrete pumping for your residential projects, such as efficiency, precision, safety, cost-effectiveness, and versatility. Read on to discover the advantages of a concrete pump and choose the right approach for your next project.

           Quicker, Efficient Concrete Placement

Concrete pumping is much quicker than using wheelbarrows or other manual methods. A concrete pump can place a large volume of materials in a short time compared to a crew pushing wheelbarrows all day. This process can make a huge difference to the speed of your project. You do not have to wait for the concrete work to be completed, and you do not have an eyesore in your property for as long. Once it is in place, your crew can start finishing work quickly, so the job can progress as planned.

Pouring the concrete in one continuous operation can produce a stronger end result. Stopping and starting to move concrete in batches can create “cold joints.” These are weak points where the new concrete meets an area that has already started to set. A concrete pump is a continuous process, which leaves you with a slab without these weak points. It also allows you to have less laborers carrying the concrete, so you can have more work on good workmanship.

           Precision and Accuracy

While a large pile of concrete may look the same, residential properties often present more challenges. A concrete crew may need to work in a fenced-in backyard or around upper decks or structures with overhanging landscaping. Manually forcing concrete into these areas can be difficult and messy. With concrete pumping, the crew can use boom arms or flexible hoses to direct the concrete to the right location. The equipment can reach over fences, buildings, or landscaping without damaging your property.

The precision with which a pump can direct the concrete minimizes spillage and wasted materials, leaving you with a cleaner job site and greater value for your investment. You can also be more precise in the thickness and stability of the concrete. This accuracy ensures you meet the engineering and design requirements of your project, rather than having more in some areas and less in others. If the crew can control the speed and direction of the concrete as it is pumped, you will also end up with a more attractive finish and a final result that is closer to the plans.

           Safer Concrete Placement

Safety is always a concern on any construction site, and moving concrete around with wheelbarrows is hard work. Laborers are at risk of back strain, slips, and falls while working in difficult conditions. Concrete pumping is much safer because the concrete is delivered by machine rather than manually. There is less traffic on site and less chaos, and you reduce the risk of accidents and injury.

A professional concrete pumping crew is also skilled in working safely with the equipment and materials. The staff follow strict safety protocols and will know how to operate the concrete pump with minimum risk to your crew and the public. The concrete truck itself does not need to move around your yard or driveway, so it can stay parked on the street or another safe place well away from property or landscaping you do not want damaged. Overall, you reduce the risk of costly property damage and ensure your project site is protected.

           Cost-Effective Concrete Placement

Although you may have to pay for a concrete pumping service, it is likely to be cost-effective when considering the entire project. You can often save money on labor because you don’t need as many laborers for as long to move the concrete around the site. There are other potential cost savings as well. The job will finish more quickly, which will reduce the overall labor costs.

If the pump puts the concrete where it needs to be, there will be less waste, and you do not have to pay for unused surplus material. A concrete pump also reduces the risk of accidents and property damage, so you can avoid unexpected repair costs and liability claims. All of these factors make concrete pumping a more cost-effective option.

Concrete pumping is flexible for all kinds of projects, including small or tricky ones, as well as large and complex ones. There’s no need for a huge construction project to benefit from this technology. Whatever the size or layout of your residential concrete project, a concrete pump on site can help the work run more smoothly and ensure it is completed correctly.

Concrete pumping is suitable for all residential projects, from pouring foundations, basement slabs, or retaining walls that need to be solid and durable, to smaller projects like upgrading patios, sidewalks, driveways, or even pool decks. Pumps are effective for a wide range of different concrete mixes, allowing you to use the right blend for the structural or design requirements of the project. In short, if you are doing any kind of residential concrete project, this flexible technology can help ensure it goes as smoothly as possible and gives you long-term results.

            Selecting the right

            concrete pumping

contractor is an essential step in ensuring the success of your construction project. A qualified and experienced contractor can help streamline your construction process, improve safety on the job site, and deliver high-quality results. Before hiring a contractor, it is important to ask the right questions to ensure the contractor is the best fit for your project needs. From inquiring about their experience and qualifications to their equipment and safety protocols, the following are some essential questions to ask before hiring a concrete pumping contractor.

           Experience and Qualifications

Experience is a key factor in determining the capabilities of a concrete pumping contractor. A contractor’s experience level can provide insight into their reliability and track record.

“What is your experience with projects like mine?”

Asking about the contractor’s experience with projects like yours is a good place to start. Inquire about the types of projects they have completed and for how long they have been in business. For instance, a contractor specializing in large-scale commercial projects may lack the specific equipment or expertise required for a smaller residential project, such as a patio or driveway. Similarly, if your project involves complex pumping requirements, you will want a contractor with experience in similar projects.

“Can you provide references or show examples of past work?”

A reputable concrete pumping contractor should be able to provide you with references from past clients or a portfolio of completed projects. You can follow up on these references by contacting past clients and asking about their experience working with the contractor. Additionally, you can review the contractor’s portfolio to get an idea of the quality and scope of their work. This can give you a good indication of the contractor’s capabilities and help you make an informed decision.

“Are your operators certified and trained?”

Operating a concrete pump requires specialized skills and training. It is important to ask if the contractor’s operators are certified and have the necessary experience. Certification ensures that the operator has received the proper training to operate the equipment safely and efficiently. Moreover, a certified operator is more likely to be familiar with the manufacturer’s guidelines and maintenance requirements, which can lead to better performance and longevity of the equipment. Ensuring that the contractor’s operators are certified and trained can help you avoid potential accidents or mishaps on the job site.

           Equipment and Maintenance

The type of equipment a concrete pumping contractor uses can greatly affect the quality and efficiency of their work. It is vital to ensure that they have the right tools for the job and that their equipment is well maintained.

“What type of pump do you recommend for this project?”

Ask the contractor for their recommendation for the type of pump that would be best suited for your project. Factors such as accessibility of the site, volume of concrete to be pumped, and distance of the pour site from the mixer should be considered when determining the type of pump to use. The contractor should be able to provide a detailed explanation of their equipment choice and why it’s the best option for your project. If they can’t, it may be a sign that they haven’t thoroughly evaluated your project’s requirements.

“What is your equipment maintenance schedule?”

Equipment maintenance is crucial to ensuring the reliability and longevity of the pumping equipment. Ask the contractor about their maintenance schedule and how often they service their equipment. A contractor that prioritizes maintenance is more likely to have reliable equipment that will not break down during the project. Furthermore, a contractor that follows a regular maintenance schedule is likely to have well-trained technicians who are familiar with the equipment and can troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

“What is your contingency plan for equipment failure?”

Even with regular maintenance, equipment failures can occur. It is vital to know how the contractor handles such situations and what their contingency plans are. Ask if they have backup equipment or alternative solutions in case of a breakdown. A contractor that has a well-thought-out contingency plan is more likely to minimize downtime and keep the project on track.

           Safety and Insurance

A contractor who is serious about safety keeps you, your property, and everyone on the job safe. You will also want to be sure they have the proper licenses and insurance for the work. These are not just legal details, rather they are steps you should take to protect your peace of mind and ensure you have proper coverage if something should happen.

“Could you share your company’s safety record and safety protocols?”

Inquire about their safety program and their safety record as a company. A contractor with an established safety program and a track record of few or no incidents demonstrates that they care about protecting everyone on the job site. Companies with this level of commitment and attention to detail are likely to adhere to industry’s best practices and be up to date with current safety regulations. This means a safer job site for your project and everyone working on it.

“Is your company fully licensed and insured?”

Verify the contractor has the proper state and local licenses for their operation. Equally important, ask to see proof of insurance, including general liability insurance and workers’ compensation insurance. These certificates of insurance protect you if an accident or property damage occurs on the job.

“How do you prep a site to be safe?”

Before trucks, pumps, and mixers are brought to your property, your contractor should walk through your site and carefully evaluate it for safety. Ask them what steps they take to survey the ground for stability, what they look for regarding overhead power lines, and how they secure a work area to ensure everyone is safe on the job site.

           Pricing and Contracts

Transparent pricing and a solid contract can help ensure all parties are on the same page, minimize confusion, avoid misunderstandings, and protect both yourself and your contractor.

“Can you provide an itemized and detailed quote?”

A professional and thorough quote should include more than a bottom-line price. Ask for specific details, such as their hourly rate for the pump, travel costs and setup fees, as well as any other charges that might be added. This way, everything is clearly listed and you know exactly what you’re paying for. It also means that there are no surprises later on.

           “What are potential additional charges?”

Inquire about circumstances that may lead to additional charges, such as an extended pour for which you may be charged overtime, additional fees for cleaning out the pump, or charges for disposing of excess concrete. Understanding all potential expenses in advance allows you to plan your budget and ensures there won’t be any unexpected costs later in the project.

“What are your payment terms and contract details?”

Review the payment schedule, along with the terms and conditions outlined in the contract before signing. The contract should clearly state the work to be performed, the responsibilities of each party, the total cost, and the terms. If anything is unclear, do not hesitate to ask for clarification.

is a method of transporting liquid concrete from the mixer to the job site using specialized equipment. Unlike traditional methods where concrete had to be hauled in wheelbarrows or buckets concrete pumping makes the process easier. Equipment like boom pumps and line pumps deliver the material fast and precise even to hard to reach areas. This is becoming the norm in modern construction making projects faster, safer and more efficient.

            Precise Placement of Concrete

             - One of the biggest benefits of concrete pumping is the precision it offers. Smooth flowing concrete is critical for areas that require detailed work such as high rise construction, intricate foundations and narrow spaces where access is limited. With a boom or line pump you can direct the concrete exactly where you need it without messy spills or time consuming corrections.

            Faster Completion of Projects

             - Time is money in construction. Concrete pumping allows for much faster pour rates than traditional methods. This speed allows contractors to meet tight deadlines or even get ahead of schedule keeping clients happy and projects moving. Faster pouring means less delays and quicker transitions to the next phase of work.

            Reducing Labor Fatigue

             - Pouring concrete manually is back breaking work. Workers spend hours pushing heavy wheelbarrows, hauling materials and performing other physical demanding tasks. Concrete pumping eliminates those tasks by letting the equipment do the heavy lifting. This reduces labor fatigue and boosts team morale and on-site productivity.Safety is always top priority on any construction site and concrete pumping plays a big role here. By using pumps workers can avoid hazardous tasks such as manually hauling heavy materials or operating near equipment. Reducing physical exertion and exposure to unsafe conditions means lower injury rates and a safer site for everyone.

           Cost of Concrete Pumping

Concrete pumping doesn’t just save time it saves money too. Faster projects means fewer hours of labor which translates to cost savings. Plus the high precision of this method minimizes material waste and keeps budgets in check. By optimizing workflows and minimizing delays contractors get better results without overspending making concrete pumping a smart investment for construction teams.

We have a few ideas of ways you can use concrete to make your home look more appealing.

           1. Front Yard Retaining Wall

Retaining walls can really add a level of sophistication to a home. They are versatile and can blend with a variety of styles. Whether you have more of a bohemian style or high society and chic, adding a concrete retaining wall is a beautiful addition to your home. They are best used outside of homes with sloped yards and add a level of protection, helping to keep the soil stable behind it.

           2. Concrete Fire Pits

Everyone loves sitting around a campfire with friends and family. Why not ditch the temporary pit and have a permanent concrete fire pit installed?

You can even opt for a concrete seating area around the fire pit so you don’t have to worry about having enough chairs for everyone. Make sure that you put a lot of thought into where your family and friends love to hang out since this will be a permanent fixture to your home.

           3. Stamped Patio Surfaces

Stamped surfaces add a lot of fun and personality to an area. You can take the beauty of concrete and amp it up a few notches with beautiful patterns and designs. Patio surfaces can be stamped which will add value to your home in the case you ever decide to sell it. Or you can choose from basic textured designs or even a hardwood plank appearance.

Common Issues With Concrete In Oklahoma

Click here to learn some of the common issues with concrete. For information on this or other services call us today for a free estimate.

Over time, your concrete can become cracked and worn out. Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe specializes in pouring concrete in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa area. We’re experts in concrete and help our clients when they need a new slab poured.

Here are some of the things you can expect from your concrete when it gets older.

           Stains and Discoloration

Stains and discoloration are one of the most common issues with concrete, especially oil stains. Did you know that the sun can also cause discoloration to concrete?

It is a good idea to move around unfixed furniture if you want to keep your concrete from bleaching out. The upside to concretes ability to absorb color is that it can be stained in a multitude of beautiful and attractive colors.

           Cracks in Your Concrete

Cracks in concrete are a very common occurrence and luckily it’s not necessary to fix each one of them. You do, however, need to keep an eye on them to make sure they do not get larger and create a hazard to you or your vehicle.

Cracks can occur from weather changes and heavy vehicles. If you can stick a nickel inside of the cracks you should look into getting it repaired soon.

           Erosion and Weather Concerns

Erosion is caused when the soil underneath is not compacted firmly enough before construction. Over time weather and the weight of your vehicles assist in this erosion process and the concrete starts to crumble or sag. It is, however, a fixable problem so there is no need to worry if you attend to it.

What to Know Before Pouring New Concrete Driveway in Oklahoma

Click here to learn what to know before pouring a new concrete driveway in Oklahoma which includes Oklahoma City or Tulsa Oklahoma area. For more info give us a call today.

We specialize in concrete pouring here at Clayton Concrete & Backhoe. Our team serves those that live in Oklahoma City and Tulsa area with our concrete services. One of the things we do for our customers is to pour concrete for a new driveway.

If you are planning to have a concrete driveway poured, there are several things to consider:

           The Right Foundation

Your top priority should be to make sure it is a permanent foundation that works in a practical way for you and your home. The slope, grade, and thickness of the concrete should be at the right level for your home and your yard. If the slope is too going toward your garage door, this could increase water retention against the door causing flooding and erosion.

           The Right Concrete Pouring Company

Another thing to consider is the company you are planning to hire to put in your driveway. Are they experienced for installations such as yours? Are they trained to use the correct equipment that is needed to install driveways? Are they insured? Will they be responsible to get the required permits?

The team here at Clayton Concrete Pouring & Backhoe has highly skilled operators that are fully trained on the equipment. We’ll make sure that your driveway is poured properly.

           Future Possible Additions

Are you going to need sleeves for future utilities to go under the driveway? This may be something you consider before having the concrete laid down. Having the space for water runoff and also future irrigation lines or lighting circuits may be worthwhile to save you some hassle in the future.

You should also know about the finished grade of the driveway and if it will be level to the ground or rise above it. The size you plan for the driveway to be will also be a factor.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

How many cars do you need to be able to fit on the driveway at one time?

Will you need an area to be used as a turnaround spot?

After the design is laid out, the contractor will determine the type of expansion joints, concrete supports, and concrete finish for your driveway.

Backhoes are highly versatile machines that have many uses, such as digging holes for swimming pools. The team here at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe has skilled operators that use our backhoes for projects in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa area. Here is what must be done to dig a hole for a swimming pool:

           Mark Utility Lines

One of the first and most important things we do is mark your utility lines. This is so we don’t dig into utility lines and cause issues with the rest of your home. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to mark private lines such as water, septic and gas.

We help make the digging process as easy as possible. We offer our customers a free consultation and then we will schedule a date to locate utility lines. Once the lines have been marked, we begin the digging process.

Dig a Spot For The Pool

After marking the utility lines, it’s time for us to start the digging process. Our skilled operator will dig a hole to the specifications needed for a pool to fit in. The backhoe allows one person to tackle a large project on their own, which is why it is used in pool installations.

           Excess Dirt

After the hole is dug, some of the dirt may need to be used to level out around the pool and fill in gaps. However, there will be a lot of excess dirt you need to do something with. There are two ways to deal with your excess dirt. Have it hauled off or keep the dirt. Excess dirt can be used to grade other parts of your yard.

Things to Consider Before Pouring Concrete for Your Loading Dock in Oklahoma

Click here to learn the things to consider before pouring concrete for your loading dock in Oklahoma or in the Tulsa, Oklahoma City areas. For information about this or other services contact us today.

A loading dock is pivotal to companies that rely on the safe transportation of goods and materials. Here at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe, we pump concrete for businesses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa area. If you are a company that needs a loading dock, you will need a solid foundation for the docks.

Here are some other things to consider when building a loading dock:

Location – Since your loading dock is going to be used often, top-level security is incredibly important. You want your loading dock to be efficient, but most importantly, you want it to be safe for your employees to use. If you can separate it from general parking, that would provide more security.

Vehicle Accommodation – When mapping out the size of the concrete for the loading dock, you’ll need to consider how much space a truck needs to back in. Also, you should consider how much space you’ll need for other large trucks to get past parked trucks.

Slab Thickness – The thickness of a concrete slab is usually determined by the amount of weight it will hold. For example, most sidewalks are 4 inches thick and driveways are around 6 inches thick. However, in order to support the weight of heavy loads, you will need a slab that is a minimum of 10 inches to 12 inches thick. Also, the slab must be able to hold the weight of dock levelers while the loaded truck is parked.

Other considerations to think of regarding the slab thickness is the soil conditions. Softer soils will require a thicker slab to support the weight of a load.

           Do You Need Concrete Pouring?

There is a reason why most concrete pouring stop during rain. The main problem is how the strength of the concrete mix will be affected. Water is essential in concrete, but the wrong proportion or too much distribution can greatly damage its integrity, durability, texture, and appearance.

If it starts to rain during the mixing, transferring, pouring, and basically when the concrete is still fresh (roughly 2-4 hours after mixing), then the strength will be compromised. The increase in water will making the pouring easier and you might not notice the effects right away, but there is a high chance that the concrete is already prone to damage. It is likely to develop dusting, cracking, crumbling, and surface scaling.

If the concrete has set is down to its finishing process, rainwater will no longer cause damage. In fact, many experts say that keeping water on the surface might even be beneficial. However, too much i.e. ponding water might cause discoloration or a change in texture.

If it has been 4-8 hours after mixing, there is a high chance that your concrete will be safe from rainwater.

Precautionary Measures When Pouring Concrete in the Rain

Concrete pouring should generally stop during rain, but if your team is unable to, here are a couple of precautions to keep in mind:

Make sure that the construction team has a protective enclosure area ready in case rain falls any time of the day.

If it does start to rain while in the mixing process, it is vital to have the concrete covered with plastic sheeting. Keep in mind that the plastic should not come in contact with the surface.

We strongly recommend avoiding concrete pouring during heavy rain and strong winds.

Professionals need to be fully knowledgeable in the water-cement ration, especially in case rainwater seeps into the mixture.

4 Pros of Using Skid Steer

           Skid steer

is one of the most popular mechanical workhorses in any construction project. It’s quick. It’s compact. It’s powerful. For more than 30 years it continues to dominate the market, but nowadays many are also rivaling it to the modern-day loader. We at

have received a lot of questions one which machine to use. The answer will still depend on your project. Still, here are four compelling reasons why we still recommend skid steer.

           Impressive Maneuverability

Until now there is no loader or construction equipment that can outmatch a skid steer in terms of maneuverability. It provides great visibility and is quick to rotate. Its unique selling point is also its easy to use joystick-like controls, which even less experienced workers easily learn.

           Compact Size

A skid steer is the perfect unit for narrow areas and hard to reach places. It is significantly smaller than a compact or front loader so it is the clear choice if your project involves an oddly shaped property or residential area. Its lighter weight also allows for easier and less costly transport.

           Heavy Duty

Do not be fooled by its size — a skid steer packs very strong hydraulic horsepower under the hood. It can load its bucket and raise it up to a certain height. This is why many contractors see it as the clear-cut choice when doing low to mid-level projects. Its hard tires are also great for concrete and asphalt compared to track loaders which will wear out faster.

           High Versatility

Our skid steer service is incredibly versatile that it can be used for ground leveling, transferring rocks, and dirt, spreading sand, and much more. It comes with the standard metal bucket attached at the front end, but it also has a wide variety of attachments to choose from, i.e. fork, ground engaging tools, grapples, and brooms.

Many landscapers consider backhoe as their go-to equipment. It is perfect for digging up and/or moving trees and keeping their roots intact. It can also move boulders, rocks, soil and dig fence post holes, small ponds, and trenches. Regardless of the terrain, a backhoe delivers.

A backhoe is always present from the beginning to the end of most road construction projects. The plow on the opposite end from the bucket can help grade or smoothen out the road. After using it for digging, a backhoe can then help in pushing the dirt away from the construction site.

During winter, even when there is no construction ongoing, people use backhoes to plow snow and clear roads.

           Multiple Projects

We cannot stress enough how versatile and functional a backhoe really is. It is a highly popular machine in other industries, i.e. agriculture, cemetery operations, swimming pool construction, military, and schools, universities. When you rent it out, you can use it for both your residential and commercial projects. Unlike other equipment, a backhoe can be used to destroy, fortify, expand, and build properties all at the same time.

          – Splinters or pieces of wood from the stump can damage your possessions, equipment i.e. lawn mower and weed whacking machine, or worse, ricochet in other directions and hurt someone.

          – Even after cutting the tree, roots from the stump can still grow uncontrollably and damage other parts of the house like driveway and garden patch.

          – It can be both displeasing to the eye and a hindrance in your landscaping plans.

Why Use a Backhoe in Clearing a Tree?

There are many ways on how to address a tree stump. Some people resort to using removal products with chemicals designed to decay a stump until it is weak enough to be easily removed. The problem with this method is that the chemicals can infect other plants and even be toxic to animals and the process can take a very long time before you can actually remove the stump. There are also those who rely manually or using a chainsaw. However, these can be both dangerous and also time consuming.

A backhoe is a very flexible construction equipment. Many experts even recommend it for the entire tree removal process, from breaking up the dirt below, removing the tree (and even including the stump altogether), and covering the hole back. Since it is relatively easier to operate, professionals can have it done quickly and efficiently. All you need is good equipment and good people behind the job.

           Advantages of Concrete Pumping

Here at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe, we are often asked by our clients on how they can speed up their construction and improve the quality as well. Whether for residential, commercial, or industrial purposes, we always recommend the use of concrete pumping as it is an effective modern tool that constantly delivers and even cuts costs. Below are some of the main advantages on why you ought to be considering concrete pumping right now.

           More Accurate Concrete Pouring

Accuracy is highly important especially for commercial establishments such as high rise buildings. Having a precise concrete pouring method means almost zero waste in materials, less chance of delay, no spills, drips, uneven, or lumpy pours, and a generally more professional finish. With concrete pumping, we can guarantee a more accurate construction which will directly result to better management of resources.

           Improved Concrete Strength & Quality

One of the biggest reasons why you should consider concrete pumping is the incredibly less amount of water it needs compared to other concrete pouring methods. Concrete with less water is stronger and no longer prone to shrinking and cracking. This will greatly reduce the need for maintenance, repair, and new pouring. The improved strength concrete pumping does to your construction will ultimately save money over time.

           Less Labor

Labor can be quite a pain in any construction job, especially in finding skilled employees and managing costs. Fortunately, concrete pumping helps minimize this problem as it requires the least amount of manpower than any concrete pouring technique. There is no need to manually pour batches of concrete as there is dedicated equipment to do it quickly and even more effectively. You can now have less people on site and have other employees focusing on other tasks.

Faster and More Convenient Concrete Placement

There is without a doubt that concrete pumping makes pouring a lot simpler and faster. It eliminates the need for manual equipment like wheelbarrows and lets you easily maneuver over hard to reach areas. Overall, concrete pumping is easier to manage is more cost effective than any other method available.

           Backhoe vs Excavator

Medium to heavy duty construction requires heavy duty equipment such as a backhoe and excavator. The two are considered juggernauts in building differ not only in size and weight, but also in terms of functionality, versatility, and transportability. Here at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe, we often recommend our clients the most effective and cost-efficient equipment and service we see fit for their project and budget.

If you are wondering which one is better, then there is no definite answer. We can only determine the perfect fit for you based on your needs as each kind has its own advantages. Below is a quick comparison of the two.

           Excavator

Not only is the excavator the larger and more heavy-duty option, it is also has the advantage of being able to rotate the chassis and boom by 360 degrees. A backhoe can only reach up to 200 degrees. This benefit is perfect for transporting larger loads, perfect for industrial purposes. We recommend an excavator for heavy projects such as demolition, digging large holes, heavy-duty lifting and placement, and more.

           backhoe

, which consists of a dipper and a boom, may be the smaller option, but it is without a doubt the more versatile one. It can be utilized for medium to heavy construction projects such as pools, swimming pools, building pads, footings, water lines, gas lines, septic tanks, storm shelters, tree removal, demolition, drilling holes, and much more.

This equipment is highly recommended for jobs that require traveling quickly, have multiple tasks at hand, and have different sizes and conditions of the space.

Click here to learn about the common concrete problems that the folks in Oklahoma experience. An to receive a quote on concrete repair or to install new concrete give us a call and take advantage of our concrete pumping service.

Adding concrete to your property can immediately boost its appearance and durability. Concrete goes with almost anything, especially with roads, sidewalks, walkways, parking lots, yards, garage, and much more. However, this building material is no different from others in terms of vulnerability to damage. Here are some of the most common concrete problems you might encounter.

           Cracking

: This might be the most common problem you might encounter. Concrete is prone to cracking because of contraction from time and weather, shrinkage, or poor application and material used. Seeing a crack for the first time might cause you to panic, especially if it’s huge. The best way to address this is to call professionals and see how deep the crack is. It is important not to let this stay exposed outside for long, especially if there is rain or snow as moisture can seep into the concrete.

           Discoloration

: Nobody likes a faded or stained concrete. Concrete discoloration can happen due to extreme weather conditions, poor material, water, different materials, or calcium chloride added during application, wrong finishing, or too much troweling. This can be addressed by certain concrete cleaners.

           Scaling

: Usually caused by poor finishing and water/moisture seepage, scaling refers to the surface of the concrete chipping or breaking. You can ask trusted professionals for the right material to use, or you can have them address this problem immediately. The flaking will continue until you have it fixed.

           Crazing

: Consider this as cracking, but on a smaller scale. Crazing involves a number of small cracks only on the surface of the concrete. In other words, this is purely aesthetic and you don’t have to worry about its stability. However, when gone unaddressed, it can appear larger, accumulate moisture, and even lead to the depreciation of your area’s value/image. You can address this by contacting the company that applied the concrete finishing because crazing is usually caused by wrong application.

Although the skid steer is often the popular choice in America, we still advise our clients to see their options before fully deciding. The factors in choosing the right equipment can depend on lift capacity and height, hydraulic horsepower, transportation needs, movement speed, and more.

The main advantage of a compact wheel loader is its generally larger bucket which can carry more load, perfect if you need a versatile heavy carrier. Since it is bigger than its counterpart, your seating is higher; hence, you definitely have more visibility. You won’t have much trouble looking when backing. Furthermore, the wheel loader feels solid in your hands as you can easily maneuver and control the power when driving.

On the other hand, a compact wheel loader can never out-maneuver a skid steer. Despite its smaller bucket capacity, we can highly recommend this equipment as a carrier for smaller spaces, especially with its short turning radius. A wheel loader generally wins in terms of reach and height, but a skid steer is incredibly dependable when transporting and repositioning items quickly and comfortably.

What are the Causes & Dangers of Potholes

Road safety should never be compromised. We at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe are strong advocates of better roads and concrete for both private and public purposes in the State of Oklahoma. One of the biggest hindrances in achieving this is potholes. In fact, it was tallied that six billion dollars are spent on automobile repair and medical treatments caused by potholes.

           What is a Pothole?

A pothole is usually a large cavity on the road formed by erosion, wear and tear, and various natural activities. You can immediately spot one when the pavement or concrete can no longer bear the weight of the load above ground brought by the ruptured hole. The term originated from 15th century England wherein potters would dig ruts on the road in order to gather raw clay. This caused a lot of turmoil as the holes would cause accidents among coaches, wagons, and horses back in the day.

           What Causes Potholes?

The most common cause is that it resulted in the combination of water and traffic. When the pavement cracks, moisture from the rain and snow will enter and loosen the soil underneath. Even after drying up from the heat, the road beneath has already expanded and elevated, no longer returning to its original solid state. When the foundation becomes weak and loose, it can no longer bear the heavy traffic that will pass through, resulting in erosion and potholes.

Thousands of accidents caused by potholes among automobiles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and road workers are being recorded every year. These ruts do not only damage the appearance of roads and pavements of neighborhoods, they also bring higher risk every time they are not being fixed immediately.

A small pothole can cause people to trip over or bicycles to get damaged, while larger ones can lead cars to swerve or drivers to lose control and lead to a potentially fatal accident. This is why we at Clayton Concrete Pumping & Backhoe strongly encourage everyone to act fast if there is one near their homes or business.
